Mother Nature has a way of telling us how we are living. And we believe we know how she’s feeling now. In honor of Earth Day we’ve been reexamining our lives - and asking friends and family what kind of commitments they’re making to decrease their footprints and consume more consciously.
Earth Day is the perfect time to spread awareness of environmental issues and do your part. Working alongside friends and family makes it even more enjoyable and encourages others to take up the cause for a healthier planet.
Celebrating Earth Day is not just about one day of action, but about making sustainable choices every day. By adopting simple practices into our daily lives, we can make a positive difference for the planet and inspire others to do the same. Together, we can create a healthier and more sustainable future for generations to come.
In the spirit of this global awakening, let us make a resolute commitment to tread lightly upon the Earth, leaving behind mere whispers of our presence. With each mindful step, we reduce our carbon footprint and honor the delicate balance of our planet.
We asked our friend, Melkorka Kjartansdóttir, a Master's Student in European Law, and Environmental Activist. how she celebrates Earth Day and how all of us can contribute to a sustainable future...
"When Earth Day comes around, I think the most important thing to remember is that every single thing we do has an impact - no matter how big or small! The best thing you can do is make sure to get informed about where the things we have come from. For example, by whom our clothes are being made, where the fruit we eat is being imported from, how our trash is actually being disposed. Being informed about these elements is an overall big effort I try to make for our planet. Once you understand the very impact of our every-day habits, you can go about and see in which ways you want to and are able to make changes for the Earth!
- I try to make an effort to shop sustainably. For clothes I buy second hand whenever I can, and for beauty products I make sure that they are eco-friendly. I look out for ingredients that are safe and non-toxic, and don’t include over exploited resources.
- Taking the time to see what is actually being put into the products we use is important to know what we are putting into our bodies, but also to understand the actual impact we are having on the earth.
- I also avoid taking flights whenever there is an alternative, more sustainable transport available.
- Preventing food waste and buying my foods locally is something I also do whenever possible.
