Favorite Sóley products and why?
Birta Serum is one of the best products on the clean beauty market - I use it on its own or blend a couple of drops into my face cream. Birta Eye Gel is also very effective. I use the Glóey Exfoliator regularly, and Steiney is such a great mask, which I often give as gifts - everyone loves it.
What is wellness for you?
Mental wellbeing - I pay close attention to the nervous system and the brain. Quality sleep and creativity are good for me. I also have to exercise well and regularly and have the need to relax with my family.
How do you spend your weekends?
Try not to work on weekends, which isn’t always the case when you run your own business. I like to read, watch movies, take time for baths and my infrared sauna blanket - I also love going for walks with my husband. Sometimes I meet up with friends for Friday night dinners and then just have a relaxing weekend - buy fresh flowers and cook something delicious.
The best advice you use daily that your mom gave you
Making my bed in the morning - and celebrating others. Life is so much more fun when you can rejoice in the success of others.
Do you have a morning routine?
I wake up around six o'clock to meditate or write in my morning journal, read for about 15 minutes, and then have all sorts of wellness habits like oil pulling, drinking a little apple cider vinegar and lemon water, using gua sha on my face and neck, and other little wellness regiments.
Favorite book, movie, or play?
I read so much work-related material, all kinds of marketing and entrepreneurial books, and therefore decided to go through my Laxness books this year - now I’m reading Gerpla. My favorite author is Paul Auster. The best performances I've seen recently are Trouble in Mind on Broadway and the movie King Richard.
Environmental measures that are most important to you?
To recycle, repurpose and shop gently used items. Knowing where products come from and how they’re produced. I stay away from fast fashion and opt for fewer but higher-quality products. I travel a lot by foot and use clean beauty and skincare products like Sóley.
What do you love most about living in Iceland?
Because I live most of the year in New York City, I love everything about Iceland when I'm home, including my people, our pristine water, and the fresh fish. My apartment is in the repurposed harbor district, near the Sóley flagship store and office, and I just love the vibe and businesses in that area. I also adore being in the countryside, and I have a strong connection to Snæfellsnes.
Favorite restaurant?
I'm such a bistro girl and a regular at Snaps in Iceland and The Odeon in New York.
