Postcard from Mývatn

When visiting Iceland one can create an entire itinerary around bouncing in and out of water. Icelanders strongly believe that soaking in the mineral-rich waters of hot springs is a powerful cure-all for skin, muscles, and the mind. We are “water is our religion” kind of people. Pools and baths are infused into our daily schedules - melting away stress and anxious moods.

Whether you want to take a plunge in one of several public pools peppered all over the island or bathe in some of our high-end spas - the options are multiple and come with various levels of comfort and luxury, and some of the soaks feature unparalleled views.

The landscape surrounding the Mývatn Nature Baths is alive. Situated in the Northeastern region of the country, where the mud bubbles and steam heaps from cleavages in the volcanic earth. The naturally warm water in the Mývatn Nature Baths flows from Bjarnarflag. It was drilled and discovered several years ago and is the most gorgeous milky-blue.

The properties of the water are layered and packed with minerals, the water is alkaline and ideal for bathing. Due to its natural chemical composition - no undesired bacteria thrive there in the lagoon making chloride or other disinfectant unnecessary and redundant.

Mývatn Nature Baths is a friend of Sóley Organics - providing their guests with body wash, shampoo and conditioner from us. Not only do they recognize the integrity and quality in our products - they also understand that offering local products crafted with hand-picked wild herbs harmonizes with their environment and ethos.
